‘Jai Ho’ won two academy awards. We all know Slumdog millionaire is a story of rags-to-riches story. Incidentally this is not the first film with underdog theme. We always had films where we see people from dust will raise to sky. Whether in Hollywood or bollywood we have lot of movies on this theme and we will see them keep coming. The simple reason for them to surface time and again is they are well received, as people who are losers or who lost the ground sees themselves in the movies.
Further I believe these superhero movies like spiderman and others where dumb gets supernatural powers are far from inspiring than real looking movies like Amir Khan’s ‘Lagaan’ which has all the elements of courage, persistence and believe in yourself tag. We then have Rakesh Roshan’s movies (one of my favourites) where our hero defeats death come back like Rekha in “Khoon Bhari Maang”, Sharukh in “Koyla” etc. These movies are for people who have stopped fighting their laziness, for people who underutilize their potential, for people who is waiting for a trigger to act, for people who wants to find an example getting rose from dust.
Apart from movies Reality shows like Indian Idol, Laughter Challenge etc have also given wings to dreams of common people. The winner’s story makes people question themselves about their inner fire and tries to kindle them. Everyone wants to be a winner but these so called underdogs are actually ones who try to be a winner. The reason being is feeling of inferiority and desire to stand up to society.
We should consider ourselves as underdog and try to reach greater heights as this feeling will keep our feet on ground because no matter how much knowledge we possess there is still infinite things to learn, no matter how much money we have we may be poorer to someone else etc. One good profit of projecting ourselves as underdog is less expectation from all sections of society and great recognition and satisfaction for achieving ordinary things. I am not telling that you have to run alone to win a race, just feel that in a race there are better runners and if I need to win I have to give more than 100%. The underdog’s inferiority feeling and desire to come up can make one give more than 100%.
chalo thoda improvement to hua :)
